Plan around the exterior storage
Alongside the mesh storage area, the Recon has two bottle pockets and a fleece-lined external pocket. Give each an intended use before deciding that more storage is automatically better. Keep sensitive items in closed storage, and consider whether belongings carried outside the main compartment could catch against crowded train seats or office furniture. If your everyday kit is mostly a computer and one slim document folder, compare how much of this organization you would leave unused.
Assess the loaded bag

Evaluate the shoulder fit with the heavier items you actually carry, rather than judging comfort from an empty bag.
