Compare the medium size deliberately
Lay out a short-trip kit with your laptop and its charger, then assess where each item would go. If rigid footwear or a large toiletry case dictates the packing depth, check that dimension specifically. A smaller convertible bag is useful only when the organized kit fits without putting strain on closures.
Make sure conversion serves the trip
Look at the handles and strap arrangement for the carrying modes you expect to use. Confirm whether unused straps can be managed conveniently. If your route involves long periods with the bag on your back, assess that loaded fit first; occasional duffle handling should not outweigh the main carrying experience.
Compare it with your actual load
